What if there were three simple things you could do to fight the climate crisis?
Floods. Deforestation. Wildfires. It's hard to know what difference one person can make.
Three Things brings together voices from the worlds of food, fashion and fresh air, with a clear message: if we all take practical, straightforward steps, we all help protect the planet.
Before it is too late.
How? The book is split into three key sections, with contributions from:
Eat
Melissa Hemsley, Jonathan Safran Foer, Tristram Stuart
Wear
Christopher Raeburn, Tamsin Blanchard, Eshita Kabra-Davies
Breathe
Gail Bradbrook, Juliet Kinsman, Rosamund Kissi-Debrah
Three Things is curated by writer and editor Ana Santi, who after spearheading the smash hit Comfort Zones in 2019, now makes her full-length debut.
Words on Three Things
"I was overwhelmed by the scale of the climate crisis and had no idea what to do about it, but refused to believe that individual action couldn’t be part of the solution. The more research I did, the more I realised there were many things I could do - and that it was my responsibility to do them.
“A lot of people don’t believe the extent of the emergency we’re in. Then when we do, it’s so unbelievably frightening that we convince ourselves it’s too big to fix. But it’s not. We’re good at this; at coming together when we have to. We can all do something; we can all do many things.
"If we act now - not next month, not in a year’s time - then we can make a real difference."
Q&A:
What is your favourite book?
So hard to say. Catch 22 made the biggest impression on me at 15. And I’ve read Franny and Zooey several times - more than any other book.
What is your favourite quote?
Find what gave you the emotion; what the action was that gave you the excitement. Then write it down making it clear so the reader will see it too and have the same feeling you had.
- Ernest Hemingway
My husband wrote it on the front of a notebook he gave me when we first started going out and I’ve never forgotten it.
What's your favourite word?
I was born in Brazil so speak Portuguese. The translation for “lukewarm” is “morno”, and it’s one of those words that as soon as you say it, you feel your body temperature adapt to it.
